Adaptive Authentication FAQ
BAREIS is switching from the RSA® Security Token to RSA® Adaptive Authentication on December 1st. Adaptive Authentication is the same technology that financial institutions use for online banking. The primary computers that you use to login to the MLS will be remembered and will only require your Agent ID and Password. You will be challenged with security questions that only you know the answers to when logging in from another computer.
1. How long is the enrollment process? Enrollment typically takes only a few minutes. You simply need to select a security picture and provide answers to the challenge security questions. While we do not have the exact questions yet, they will be something along the lines of first pet’s name, mother’s maiden name, etc.
2. Will the logon experience change? Yes, but it is still a step-by-step process. You will enter your ID on the first screen. On the second screen a security image will be displayed and you will enter your password. If you log on from a new computer, the security image will not display and you will be challenged with security questions.
3. How does Adaptive Authentication handle office computers with multiple users? A single computer can be authorized to remember as many users as necessary. When a user tells the system they will utilize that computer to log on, the computer will recognize them in the future.
4. What if I regularly log on from more than one computer? You can bind as many PCs to your identity as you like. Each computer you set as a primary computer will be issued a security cookie tied to your Agent ID.
5. What if someone deletes their security cookie? The system stores a backup of the security cookie which can be recovered even if you delete your cookies. There are some instances in which the backup may be removed (anti-virus software, etc.). In these cases, the system will attempt to recover the cookie based on information stored in the RSA® database. If the cookie cannot be recovered, you will simply be challenged with security questions. At this time you will have the opportunity to rebind the computer to your ID.
6. What happens to an agent’s security cookie when they move offices? The cookie remains on the computer until it is removed. This does not cause any problems since you can also bind your new computer to your ID. You should always change your MLS password when you move offices.
7. What are some of the indicators that Adaptive Authentication uses to detect fraud? The RSA® risk engine learns the behavioral patterns of each user by tracking hundreds of fraud indicators, such as IP address, physical location and logon frequency. In addition, integration with the RSA® eFraudNetwork™ prevents anyone from logging on from a blacklisted IP address.
8. When can I recycle my RSA® Security Token? BAREIS recommends that you hold on to your security token until after the New Year. In the extremely rare event that something catastrophic happens with Adaptive Authentication you will still have your token to log in with. BAREIS will be accepting the old security tokens for recycle after after January 1st.
